Shipping Rods Over 105"
Splicing Details:
We utilize UPS for the shipment of all packages. Because there is a maximum package length allowed, we must splice any rod longer than 105". By default we will divide the rod into equal lengths, for example a 140" rod would be spliced into 2 @ 70" and a 270" rod would be spliced into 3 @ 90". Upon request, we can splice your rod however you like so long as no segment is over 105". For most corner and bay rods there will be a splice at each corner. With our splicing method, any length of rod will look and function like one solid rod once installed.
Please note that there is a new UPS/FedEx fee that applies to any box over 96" long (which means any rod segment over 93" due to packaging cushion). However, this fee can almost always be avoided. If you suspect that you'll need an individual rod segment over 93" long then please contact us to discuss options. Individual rod segments over 93" typically only occur with overall rod lengths between 93" - 105", or 186" - 210", and only with 1 1/4" or larger diameter rods (since 1" rods can only span up to 90" between brackets).
Our splices are extremely sturdy, easy to assemble, and are completely hidden once installed. (Reference images below.) Keep in mind that you'll want a bracket at each splice point to help support the rod and to hide the seam. The splice is firmly secured with set screws on the back of the rod.
Splice Assembly Steps:
1. The end of each rod segment has a set screw for securing the splice. You'll find the set screw on the back of the rod approximately 2" from the end. The splice connector is a smaller diameter piece of rod, about 8" long.
2. Slide the splice connector halfway into one rod segment and tighten the set screw. Repeat on the other rod segment.
3. Rotate the rods such that the set screws are on the back, next to the wall. Once installed, only a thin seam remains which will be completely hidden behind the middle bracket, thus making the rod appear as a continuous, seamless rod.
