What is a Maximum Suggested Span Between Brackets?

Each rod diameter has a maximum suggested span between brackets to avoid sag in the rod. Typically, the larger the rod diameter, the longer the rod can span. Curious about maximum shipping lengths? Learn more here.

Maximum Suggested Spans by Rod Diameter:

The following maximum suggested spans are based on hanging 10 lbs of curtain weight per span (e.g., light to medium weight curtains).

For each additional 5 lbs of weight, we recommend deducting 15" from the maximum suggested span to avoid sag.

  • 1/2" diameter rod = 70" maximum suggested span between brackets (using lightweight curtain panels only)
  • 3/4" diameter rod = 80" maximum suggested span between brackets
  • 1" diameter rod = 90" maximum suggested span between brackets
  • 1 1/4" diameter rod = 105" maximum suggested span between brackets
  • 1 1/2" diameter rod = 105" maximum suggested span between brackets

Consider the Following Examples with a 1" Diameter Rod:

Ex. 1) Total rod length up to 90" will not be spliced and will require 2 support brackets

Ex. 2) Total rod length over 90" and up to 93" will not be spliced and is recommended with 3 support brackets

Ex. 3) Total rod length over 93" and up to 180" will be spliced in half and requires 3 support brackets (custom segment splicing available by request)

Ex. 4) Total rod length over 180" and up to 270" will be spliced in thirds and requires 4 support brackets (custom segment splicing available by request)
